How does the App connect to a ShowerStar?
The App is installed onto a smartphone and connects via Bluetooth to the ShowerStar. The typical RF range is typically around 10-15 meters.
What is the expected battery life?
The battery will typically last for ~6-8 months. This depends on a few factors such as how many showers per day, the brightness and number of alerts and how often you connect the App to the ShowerStar.
At least 8 months is a good rule of thumb assuming 4 showers per day. Fewer showers per day and less intrusive alerts will result in longer battery life.
How do you recharge the battery?
What sort of savings can I expect?
The typical payback period is 3 months or less, depending on your cost of energy, water, shower length length and frequency of your showers.
Typically families with children will have shorter paybacks.
Average reduction in shower time is ~ 30% but may be longer or shorter depending on your specific usage patterns.
Does the ShowerStar or App collect any personally identifiable data?
No. The App does not require you to enter your name, email address, mobile phone number or any type of personally identifiable data.
Data that is collected includes location (to determine average incoming water temp), water heater type (gas, electric resistance, heat pump or solar thermal), shower duration.
This data can help utilities and program sponsors verify product has been installed and is being used along with understanding when hot water is used. Hot water use is particularly useful for utilities to design water heater load flex programs that minimise inconvenience to residents.
The blue led flashes when the shower is not running.
The ShowerStar works by sensing vibrations on the water piping. Sometimes the piping will vibrate when a shower or tap is running in another part of the house.
This can also be caused by water hammer.
First thing to note is this is not a problem and these events will not be recorded in your shower log. They will only be logged if the LED flashes green - meaning the shower timers has started.
To reduce the blue LED flashing when the shower is not running, adjust the sensitivity of the sensor lower. Go to Device Details / Settings / Sensitivity
Will I lose Shower History logs when I connect the ShowerStar to another phone?
Yes.
If you disconnect ShowerStar from one phone and reconnect it to another after removing the Bluetooth pairing, the history logs will not transfer to the new device.
Will I lose Shower History logs when I uninstall the app from my phone?
Yes.
Uninstalling the app from your phone will delete the history logs.
