Why is the blue LED flashing when my shower is off?
If you see the blue LED flashing on your ShowerStar while the water is turned off, don’t worry. This usually means the device’s smart flow detection is sensing vibrations in the pipe or background noise and mistaking it for water flow.
Because ShowerStar uses behavioural nudges to save you water and energy, we want to ensure it only wakes up when you are actually showering.
Follow these simple, practical steps to fix the issue.
1. Check the mounting cradle
The most common cause of "phantom" flow detection is a loose connection between the device and the pipe.
-
Check that the mounting cradle is secured firmly to the shower pipe.
-
Ensure the zip ties are fastened very tightly—remember, this is a "2 minute DIY install" with "no tools" required, but a snug fit is essential for the sensor to distinguish between water flow and pipe vibration.
2. Check the device insertion
Ensure the ShowerStar unit is fully inserted into the mounting cradle. It should sit flush against the mount to accurately detect the temperature and flow.
3. Adjust location and run Learn Mode
If the blue light persists, the current spot on the pipe might be subject to external vibrations (like a washing machine or nearby plumbing).
-
Try moving the ShowerStar to a slightly different location on the shower arm.
-
Once moved, you must perform Learn Mode again so the device understands the new baseline.

4. Turn off the Blue LED setting
If you prefer, you can simply disable the standby flashing feature entirely through the app. This will not affect your traffic-light timer or savings data.
-
Open your TouchGrid App.
-
Navigate to Device Settings.
-
Select Off Blue Flashing.
